Overview
Mogul is a fantasy and prediction platform for entertainment — a category that, unlike sports or stocks, didn't really have a home yet. Users can vote on entertainment questions market-style, or step into Fantasy Studio, where they draft their own virtual movie within a budget.
Challenge
There was no existing product for fans to predict or draft entertainment outcomes the way people already do for sports and stocks. The concept itself was layered from the start — market-style voting on one side, budget-based drafting on the other — so the real design challenge was making an unfamiliar category feel immediately understandable.
Solution
I designed the landing experience, sign-up flow, and both core interaction modes: the market-style voting on entertainment questions, and Fantasy Studio, where users assemble a movie within a budget by choosing actors, directors, and a script, then put it up for a vote. The product owner wanted the entry point to feel gamified and exciting, but the mechanics themselves — voting, drafting — to stay dead simple, so a first-time user could get it without a tutorial.
My Role
I worked directly with the product owner and the development team, owning design end-to-end — landing page, sign-up, the voting flow, and the Fantasy Studio drafting experience. I designed primarily for mobile, with development adapting the same flows into a web app.
Design Decisions
The hardest problem was compressing a lot of moving information — budgets, options, odds, timing — into something that read as simple rather than overwhelming. One specific challenge was the countdown timer: once a vote had a minute left, the interface needed to surface that urgency clearly without cluttering the screen or pulling focus from the decision itself.
Responsive Design
The product was designed mobile-first, since that's where most user activity happens, and the development team then adapted those flows into a web app.

Outcome
Mogul is live at mogul.moviepass.com. The project meant holding two different registers in one product — playful and gamified on the surface, simple and legible underneath — while still shipping something a first-time user could use with no instructions.
